BL ANIME AU, BASICALLY
[You know what, maybe Blue and Killua had gotten a little caught up in their hubris here. Aside from where their gym activities intersected, the two didn't really interact much—there were curious, stolen glances from across halls and classrooms, but they'd never really spoken much, despite the two of them holding their own polar, lofty positions. And one of their matched positions at this school was in anything athletic. In these intersections, they finally talked—and it was a lot of shit-talking.
Killua didn't consider Blue a rival, exactly. Not even in sports. He couldn't lift as much as Killua, and was weaker in general—but he was pretty fantastic in cardio based stuff, and not many people could actually match Killua in much of anything. So it was fun to antagonize him. Killua never challenged him to stuff Killua knew he'd win; that just wasn't fun.
The school was more into their perceived rivalry than anyone. Swooning schoolgirls and nosy, rowdy schoolboys all had their own opinions about Killua Zoldyck, the mysterious transfer student who'd appeared out of nowhere to steal Blue's thunder. Not that Killua really had; the Oaks had deep roots (ha) in this city, but so did the Zoldyck's by proxy of some other big name ties—giving the two directly opposite reputations.
It was all rumor and hearsay, but it sounded like the Zoldyck's were part of the mob, if not a whole famiglia themselves. Some people joked that it was like Killua was the devil with his rumored roots, and Blue was an angel, with all the advances in science the Oak's had contributed. They were a charitable, hyper intelligent family, too. But the joke was that Blue wasn't much of an angel, himself—while not unfriendly quite outright, he certainly rubbed plenty of people the wrong way. But he was too dazzling for it to make a dent in his popularity.
Killua decided that Blue sort of annoyed him, that way—but embarrassingly, it pulled him in, too. He was curious about what that kind of kid would be like, even if he already had a strong, biased theory. Just some douchey, pretty boy with a lot of money... but then, so was Killua, and he was buried to his neck in his own skeletons. All the same, Killua wasn't really magnetized enough to talk to him like a normal person.
But sports? Different story.
And Blue was competitive as hell—the two had actually sort of gotten off path, so confident they could jog back onto the trail before their classmates had even caught up after their private race. But as luck would have it, it began to storm quite badly—Killua worried it may have been a monsoon, actually.
So now, their uniforms miserably clung to their bodies, Killua's standing under an old stone bridge with Blue, scowling as water drips from his sagging hair, a darker gray with its saturation.]
Tch, stupid rain! You'd think the damn teacher would've known about something like that before letting us run track outside!
[the weather had been so nice, too...]
I was close, too...

I was close, too...

[Killua furrows his eyebrows as he looks around when Blue points that out, this time seeming to really give the deckbrushing a rest. He wipes his forehead, scowling a little. He had, of course... missed the part where Blue had been gazing at the overhead faucets.]
What do you mean? What could possibly be missing?
[Like he said!! STRAIGHT FORWARD. They had everything they needed to clean this place up, and it wasn't even very many things to keep track of...]

The rinse cycle! [He cackles brightly, letting his mop clatter noisily against the corner of the tile stall; the bucket catches a good amount of the shower water, and suds flow out and rinse down the drain along with the scrubbed-off muck.]
[This guy needed to lighten up a little bit, after all this sour mood stuff!]

His expression goes from shocked, to incredulous, to furious as it fixes on Blue, Killua's white hair sopping a limp, silky gray, heavy with the saturation of the water—
Then he laughs. And laughs some more, expression cracking with delight, even for how his brows are furrowed.]
You asshole!
[Killua, jaw set with determination as he smirks, setting forward suddenly to snatch the nasty bucket of gray water from beside Blue. Killua's arms immediately wind back at the elbow, and his grin is showing teeth.]
Well, if you already have the water going...

[That is, until he snatches up the bucket and brandishes it. Blue's laughter chokes in a stop, face turning to horror of his own.] --W-wait, hold on...! That's dirty! [He squawks, hands raising up in a defensive posture. That grey, nasty, grime-filled mop water... That's not fair! The shower water was clean!!] Don't you dare!
its ok killua a loyal ho
Fine, but only cuz you helped me with the bulbs. But I'm still gonna find a way to get you!

[...Before his mouth wiggles and he erupts into his own bout of laughter again. Aw, screw it- they were both soaking wet, tired, and super done with this task.]
The hell, you actually remembered that? [Well, the fact that he cared, moreso- the appreciation of it- Blue hopes the flush of his fright and embarrassment hides the flush from that realization.] Yeah, right- come at me, I'm ready for you whenever!
[He turns the faucet back off again, both of them shaking out their hair and wringing their shirts; the spray has left the stall rinsed and clean, so now all they have to do is take the cleaning supplies back to the closet-]
[Soaking wet. Okay, maybe he didn't think this totally through, but whatever.] Ugh. I'm never taking a shower in that lockerroom again...!

Probably a couple of weeks ago, Killua would have scolded Blue for this inconvenience... but Killua's chaotic heart as truthfully at home with it, and it's nostalgic in a way that makes his heart clench a little. Killua smiles lopsidedly as he glances away, giving his shirt another wring. How lame.]
Yeah?
[Killua laughs, and lifts the bucket to empty it by one of the drains, then kicks it towards the other supplies.]
That's a nice idea in theory, but do you really wanna be all sweaty through the rest of the school day after gym and stuff?
[Killua pinkies some water of his ear.]
Even if you change clothes, it'd probably be gross.

[...Or he wishes he could say that, but whatever... He'll get him later. Blue finishes shoving the mops and brooms into the closet and grimaces, walking over to the sinks to give himself another good wash of his hands and face.]
I'd rather just run back to my dorm and wash up! To think this place barely gets cleaned, ugh. Nasty...
[Shaking off the excess water again, Blue hesitates for a moment as he glances Killua's way. This was their last task of 'community service' ...After this, they'd never have to deal with each other outside of class again.]
[...And for some reason, frustratingly, that made Blue sort of lonely.]
...Well, see you at class, tomorrow. [He finally breathes out, dropping his gaze before grabbing his bag where he'd left it on the counter.]

Killua follows Blue's lead unconsciously, washing his hands, wrists and upper arms, opting to just.....carry his wet jacket and overshirt on the way out instead of put it all back on.
He's aware of Blue's gaze on him, but it doesn't make Killua antsy; he feels like Blue's probably trying to reach for something to say, or something, which he feels is natural... Of course a series of detentions could only have sort of an awkward end, so what does one say?
Killua shrugs his bag over his damp shoulders. At first, his response is just a half smile—like he's pleased about something.]
Mm, see you then.
