lil follow up log from gon's day of arrival
[with a little bit more arguing and scrapping, Killua and Gon have successfully submitted a few tasks. they decided afterwards that they should fish and forage. Gon doesn't have his pole, but showed Killua some alternative methods to catch fish. and Killua had the chance to show Gon his own, which is just straight up spearing the fish with his claws, which earns some gentle criticism from Gon since... you know, if you pop the guts, you can ruin the meat... but whatever, Killua just wanted to show off, anyway. it's good, wholesome fun.
the foraging is even fun. it takes Killua back, and he wonders if it was only fun because he got to do it with Gon. the whole time, if he looked outside their own little world for even two seconds, Killua was overwhelmed by his own happiness. true, the darkness lurked beneath, making him feel vaguely uneasy near constantly... but it's been greatly overshadowed over all.
he feels like he can't quite express how much he missed Gon. he knows Gon knows it, but Killua's never said as much, not even in their e-mails. he figures it goes without saying. but somehow, being abruptly reunited... especially without Alluka to keep him company, his soreness from not having Gon is so much more apparent.
now, fish wrapped in leaves, backpacks stuffed full of mushrooms, nuts and berries, Killua's sorting everything into his fridge. dirt is smeared on his cheek and shoulders, clothing stained with grass.
as Killua closes the fridge, he glances at Gon. Gon wanted to come to Killua's, which makes sense; his space is a little more lived in.]
We should move in together, out of this place.
[this place referring to where all the new transplants are crammed. part of Killua finds himself a little pathetic, how unable he is to keep himself from just wanting Gon around him all the time. especially since he feels it may not even actually be good for them... but he's just too weak to suggest anything else.]

This style of bathroom is so weird... [He idly washes up with soap before sitting on the edge to wait for Killua to take his turn.]
It's like it's not meant for more than one person at a time. What a waste, huh?
[this culture is dumb, and feels like it's more ashamed of bodies than he's used to]
no subject
Yeah...
I guess they don't really operate as communally, maybe.
[he steps in after Gon, starting first with his hair and dutifully scrubbing up the rest of his body.]
It's weird they put everything in one room, too. But it could be they're just cutting corners to save space for all the people who're just kinda appearing in their city.
[when Killua turns the water off, he goes and fetches them each a towel, tossing Gon his.]
no subject
[Especially since it sucks by his measure. Not that he was spoiled, but... he also felt like a capable person.]
[He could have gone for a soak in the tub, but they barely have enough to do that. Well. That was a goal for their own place, he supposed.]
What do you wanna do? It's not like they have video games or anything here... [Not that they hadn't amused themselves with stupid kid games in the past. Gon catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror. He spies... a couple hairs.]
Hey, Killua, have you started growing any facial hair yet?
no subject
[Killua turns so suddenly his towel flies off his shoulder, and he grabs either side of Gon's face suddenly, eyes wide and angry.]
Facial hair?!
[and holy fuck. there they are!! what the hell!!]
Gon!! [still manhandling his friend's face, Killua tilts Gon's head as he peers closer, inspecting him roughly.]
Augh, seriously!?
[he lets go.] I haven't, really...
[he sulkingly rubs at his own face.]
That's really not fair. I know you're older, but I'm taller. I've been growing...
no subject
[Gon placidly allows his face to be pulled and examined. ]
Maybe Iāll just keep stubble like my dad... it looks so cool, donāt you think?
[Aw, poor killua.] Itās ok! Youāll get there eventually, probably!
no subject
Killua lets go of Gon, then picks up his towel, fluffing his hair irritably with it. then he gently smacks Gon with his towel.]
No way! Thatād look silly on you. Youāre still way too cute. [Killua did you really just say that.] Wait ātil you have more hair and youāre bigger.
[Gon with patchy stubble like Ging... in his tiny shorts. Killua suddenly snorts, pressing a hand to his mouth as he suppresses laughter.]
Can you imagine Ging in your fisher suit?!
[and he loses it.]
Ahahahaha!!
no subject
[Gon pulls off his towel and winds it up, unleashing a fury of lashes]
Do you think my outfit is too... childish?
no subject
with his question, Killua blinks, straightening up.]
... I mean, no. It suits you, for right now. Besides, being cute isnāt bad.
[Killuaās expression is a little wry as he glances away.]
Women seem to like you already.
[heās been on dates!! and has facial hair! how does Gon manage to make him feel like a late bloomer...]
no subject
I mean... Yeah, Iāve already gotten attention from all kinds of girls.
[he whips the towel around Killua, trying to just catch him in it for kicks. ]
After all... I think youāre really cool, Killua!
no subject
[Killua makes a choked sound of irritation, grabbing the towel by its end once he realizes Gon's trying to ensnare him. he yanks it roughly, gritting his teeth at Gon. when Gon says he thinks he's cool, his face reddens to the tips of either of his ears.]
Huh!?
[he still....... flips out a little when Gon so earnestly compliments him, even if he isn't as bad as he used to be.]
Well, it's fine if you think so, but I'm not the one who's popular with girls!
[he grabs the end of the towel with both hands, giving it another yank.]
Guess the whole murder thing's a turn off.
no subject
[That catches him off guard and he knocks into him, just catching Killua by the shoulders to prevent a catastrophe.]
Killua, you know you donāt have to tell people that you were an assassin. Not that you should be ashamed or anything, but maybe let people get to know you! Besides... youāre the one who cares about girls I guess. Whatās kind of girls do you like?
no subject
I...
[Killua hasn't been telling everyone he was an assassin. not the softer people, not...Blue.
shit. Killua has to talk to Gon about Blue.]
I don't... know. I still haven't met a lot of them, since I was isolated at home, then on the road with you... then with Alluka, for a while... and I've only been here a month...
What about you?
[tall? older? brunette? ugh. why does part of him feel like he doesn't want to know the answer?]
no subject
[Gon knits his brows together as he thinks hard about this.]
Hmm... I havenāt thought that much about it. I guess someone whoās strong and capable, but nice... someone I could have fun with! I guess looks arenāt super important... as long as sheās not... yāknow... really ugly. I think she would have to be a hunter, cause I donāt want to stop being a hunter.
[Gon finally backs up and wraps his towel back around himself. ]
But maybe Iād just slow her down if I canāt use nen and sheās a hunter. I guess I should be prepared to settle? Mito said I should study so I can work at the association in an office, but that sounds boring,
no subject
[Killua blinks. he has seen a lot of women... why hasn't he noticed? maybe he's more connection reliant... absent mindedly, Killua wraps himself in his towel too. he tries to imagine the kind of girl Gon's talking about.
he thinks about girls they've both met; they both ignored Bisky pretty hard when they first met her, and Killua didn't care for Palm.
what Gon says next distracts Killua from his thoughts. he doesn't have the heart to remind Gon that without Nen, he can't really be a Hunter...]
—Settle? No way. Knowing you, you'd cause trouble somehow even in an office setting...
[Killua tilts his head, holding his chin. he seems to be thinking hard about this. it really is just so weird, he can't...imagine it. his eyes are stuck on Gon, for a moment, trying to think of him with a girl. it'd definitely happen for Gon before Killua, he thinks. his heart twists strangely, but not for the reason he thinks.
does Gon even want a girlfriend? does Killua?
he's thinking too much about this.]
I think I agree, though. I don't like jerks, but I can't stand people who're too meek, either. [so he says.] I guess someone who's legitimately really kind is more important, though. But I definitely would want a girl I can get in trouble with. Probably a Hunter, in that case. And someone who's not freaked out by my past, but not so unhinged from humanity that the reason it doesn't register as a problem is because they're like...a sociopath.
[Killua scoffs dryly in mild self deprecation.]
I'm more shallow than you, though. She'd definitely have to be attractive. Fit, at least. Enough to fight me.
no subject
[Gon sighs dramatically as he steps back into the bedroom. He flops facedown and groans. At least Killua was giving him something to think about.]
We don't even know any girl hunters our own age! ...Except Kite, sort of. [Gon makes a face saying that.]
He's not really a girl though.... [Gender is difficult.] That would be Kite for sure, for you, though. I guess being a biologist would be cool, but I'd need Nen to deal with certain animals. [Like, y'know, chimera ants.]
no subject
jesus fucking christ why would he bring up Kite right now? is Kite an option in Gon's eyes?! for either of them!?]
Kite isn't an option, you frickin' weirdo!!!! No way I'd date him!! He may have the body of a girl right now, but he's definitely a boy, you idiot!
Plus, he's—the same Kite, isn't he?! He's old as hell, to boot!
[he throws the change of clothes at Gon. hard]
no subject
[Gon pulls on the clothes that Killua is so graciously lending him. He looks adorable in it, like a little closet cosplayer.]
Why am I the weird one here?! I mean. I guess he wouldn't want to be with a boy anyway? [Gon does not yet know that he knows any homosexuals. Or transpeople. Or. There's a lot that Gon doesn't know here.]
But... If Kite has a girl body now... Does that mean he's going to want to date boys? [Gon's ears are smoking.] But if he's regular Kite...
no subject
Killua sighs coarsely, then plops on the bed beside Gon. he twists to stare sternly at his friend. this is something Killua knows about, while he doesn't have a ton of practical experience with it. but he definitely has more than Gon.]
Gender and sexuality operate different from each other.
[Alluka is too young to have really shown any preference in boys or girls, but she's not his only point of reference, here...]
Gon, I'm going to tell you something, but please don't tell anybody else, okay? It's not exactly a secret, but it's sensitive information. I think it's going to help you understand a little.
no subject
[Gon sits up properly and nods dutifully. He can sense that this is going to be difficult material, but Killua's shift in attitude gets his attention.]
You can trust me, Killua. [He pulls his knees up to his chest, laying his cheek on his knee as he looks at Killua.] I won't tell anyone.
no subject
[he adjusts, sitting pretzel legged as he lifts a finger at Gon.]
...Everyone in my family calls Alluka a boy, because that's how she was born. But she's never called herself a boy, because that isn't how she feels. Part of why I was happy to take her away from that place is because my family doesn't treat her as a human, because of Nanika—but they also don't treat her like a girl.
She's tough, so she doesn't mind, but I was afraid it might do eventual long term psychological damage.
Like Alluka is a girl, Kite is a boy. Alluka is very girly, so I wouldn't be surprised if she grew up to like boys. Of course, if she ends up liking girls, that's whatever. Kite is probably the same as he was before, whatever that was.
A person's body doesn't dictate what they're attracted to. There's guys who are born as guys that like other guys, and the same with girls who like girls. It just happens.
no subject
What are they gonna do when they get older, though?! I got all excited about my stubble, but I don't think Alluka will... Oh man...
[Gon also just. Accidentally pictured Kite in a new adult body. His face goes red and he throws himself onto the mattress face down again.]
And Kite!! If Leorio met Kite he'd have to kill Leorio! Oh, noo..... Can we help them!?
[A beat.]
Guys who like guys... Ohhhhh is that what's... with... Hisoka?
no subject
Kite probably has a strong constitution when it comes to handling idiots like Leorio.
As for Alluka... It's hard, because she's still little, and as her guardian, I'm also a child, but we're hoping we can get her medicine to block testosterone when she starts going through puberty. If nothing else, I can illegally obtain a prescription using my connections as a Hunter.
[to the bit about guys who like guys... Killua's face reddens, just a little.]
...I don't know what's "with" Hisoka. But he does seem to like guys. I never really thought of him as gay specifically, but I guess that he could be...
Definitely not all gay dudes are like that, I'm pretty sure...
no subject
Yeah... I don't think anyone is like Hisoka.
[Well, now pandora's box has been truly opened.]
So... You know how Hisoka said there's shortcuts to tell what kind of nen user someone is? Is there that for gay people? How do I tell?
no subject
and THEN—
Killua looks so incredulous it's just fuckin' off the charts.
then he comes back to reality, looking feral as he shouts at Gon.]
You idiot!! You can't just—"tell"!! I mean, with some people, you might be able to... It's just better to not assume anything about anyone, I guess. Just like you'd never know Alluka was born as a boy, some people you'd never guess only like the same gender.
Generally... I don't think you can tell.
[why does Killua look kind of crestfallen when he says that]
no subject
[Gon couldn't shake the persona easily. He hasn't come to terms with the fact that he can't be a Hunter if he doesn't have nen.]
Hey, Killua, are you okay?
no subject
[Killua rubs the back of his neck, looking distracted, his cheeks a little pink.]
I guess all this just put a lot of stuff on my mind that I haven't really thought about too much before...
no subject
[Gon still has some energy, somehow]
We could spar! If it wouldn't be too boring for you since I don't have nen... Or... We could play a game!
no subject
[Killua is exhausted by their conversation in ways he can't hope to articulate. he doesn't even fully understand, himself. thinking about girls, who Gon's going to date, what Killua finds attractive, Kite, gay stuff, transgender stuff...
he just flops backwards onto the bed. he blinks at the ceiling.]
I think maybe a game?
[he's too tired to spar..... Gon really does have limitless energy.]
no subject
[Gon changes position and smiles, almost mischievously.]
Or... I think there were some cards in the lobby...
[But when Gon crashed, he always crashed hard.]
no subject
I'd be down for a card game. There's definitely some playing cards down there.
[also hey there, Killua's not so subtle interest in gambling...]
no subject
[And he hustles off with no flagging in his energy. Truth or dare would have been way too risky, good call Killua.]
[It just takes a few minutes for him to come back, cards in tow]
So.... Do you know any card games? I used to play poker with Mito and Granny... It was just for pennies, though.
no subject
[Killua leans back, crossing his ankles with his knees akimbo.]
You ever play Egyptian Rat Screw?
no subject
[That sounded... Interesting.]
Uh-uh. How do you play?
[Gon's eyes shined with excitement, though. He loved learning new stuff, even if it was a little challenging at times. And besides, he wouldn't trade anything for his time with Killua.]
It better not be too complicated!
no subject
[Killua smiles, holding out his hand.]
Gimme the deck? I'll try explaining now.
no subject
Thanks, Killua!
